Welcome Prof.
I do agree that BA has given the impression that they are not treating economy class passengers very well. I did not like to hear Ayling saying that he will concentrate on business and first class passengers on an airline that I like. It's almost like discrimination. If you don't want economy class passengers then don't offer the service at all. I have been lucky to being able to fly First and Club the last few years, but one day I will probably be back down to economy.
However, even though I have heard these words, I have to ask is BA ecomony worse than other airline's ecomony class? The only thing I would say is that they should standardized the seat-back videos that I have only seen on some planes, and not all.
I think introducing World Traveler Plus is an indication that BA wants to cater for the higher end economy passengers. Only Virgin's premium economy has the same thing. Still I cannot think of other airline's international economy being that much better than BA.
I agree with Gaza and feel that BA also is not treating its premium passengers very well. Once you start traveling on BA they take you for granted. I also accumulated over 3000 points last year, and received nothing special at all. If I traveled 2K on United (twice their highest level), I know that I will at least receive a special gift.
U.S. executive club members can upgrade on flights originating from the U.S., but it normally costs 40,000 miles, while on United it only costs 20,000 miles on a fare that is half the price of BA. A recent example, I double booked SFO-LHR-SFO. On UA, I paid $950 for an economy ticket and then upgraded to business for 20,000 miles. On BA, I paid $2000 for an upgradable economy ticket, and then used 40,000 miles to upgrade. Guess which one I took?
I would like to see:
1) BA valuing all passengers. Economy class passengers could be your future business and first class passengers. I was! I traveled economy, at least 50,000 miles every year for 11 years before flying first and business regularly.
2) More attention paid to regular high-end customers. Even though first / business class passengers were suppose to be given priority, the only thing I have seen are their superior seats. I would like to feel important and receive better service / programs compared to the once-a-year first or business class passenger.
