Interesting. I’m looking at my SPG personal AmEx card which was first issued in 2017, and there is no such symbol on either the front or the back of the card. Not that I care for the feature from a security perspective, and would not regard it to be an upgrade of any sort (I wonder if it can be declined?).
Card information is encrypted and a random token is generated each time the card is tapped, so there's no risk of someone stealing usable card information like RFID wallet makers would have you believe. There is obviously the security flaw of someone stealing your card to tap it, but since the US doesn't use chip and pin this flaw of no authentication has existed forever anyway and you're not liable.
