I booked through Expedia, and was able to change dates of my A class first class ticket for $100 and no fare difference, last Saturday. I did however pay an additional 30 or so dollars in difference in taxes as I forced two stopovers in HKG, both on the way out and back.
You need a bit of luck with a good Expedia agent who knows what they are doing, first reached two different clueless ones, politely hang up and called again, finally a very competent agent was able to very quickly find the J and A class inventory and made the change for me.
Kuods to CX, don't know where that story of having A class blocked only for new bookings comes from but obviously i was still able to make changes without re-pricing just 2 days ago so A class is definitely available for rebooking as well.
