These errors occur from time to time. Hardly unique to Marriott. Search the SPG forum, and IIRC you'll find some from years past there, too.

Side note, I have noticed in recent months, even I had wanted to prepay, telling Marriott overlords to take my $$ immediately after booking, nothing until just a couple of days prior to check-in (despite rate details stating otherwise), or sometime not until until check-out.
Don't know how Marriott works, -- in Starwood, the charges were generated by the hotels. When rezzies came in that were coded as prepaid, it was up to the hotel to charge the credit card.
