Flew into SAN at the end of December, hadn't realised you had to collect bags first but plenty of announcements to that effect. Plenty of CBP lanes open and a very pleasant chat with the officer, who was interested in the UK and what was going on. The same officer does customs as well. We were at the Embassy Suites in time for happy hour! Overall a very good experience.
