I have booked BCE on BA.COM for aa codeshare flights to JFK. As a BA silver I have been able to select MCE seats.

The first couple of times AA asked if I wanted to check bags at the check in kiosk and there was no cost for bags one & two.

When I flew in Jan 2019 and tried to check a bag, the agent said I would have to pay so I didn't check a bag.
