So this is where I, unfortunately, have a fair bit of experience.
I have found BA to be brilliant about making things work and preserving cabin, even going as far as to make non-upgrade space be available (we typically book Premium Economy Economy and Avios to Business). Onour most recent cancellation, they made Business class available to us on AA (now going SJC-LAX-LHR).
I am quite certain that they would allow you to re-route direct to LAX and retain First. I don't believe, though, that they'd reimburse the SJC-LAX that you have separately, but it is worth asking as the re-route is completely on them.
