Let's say your nonstop flight is at 3pm, but you arrive at 12pm and notice there's a nonstop flight at 1pm. There are no "WGA" fares left, so it would be cost prohibitive to change online, but if the 1pm flight isn't full, will a gate agent (or ticket agent) put you on that flight without charging the higher fare? Assuming here that there are no checked bags.
