Why would I want to chase status when 100% of my flights are cash bought Club World tickets usually bought in the sales and are usually departing out of AMS/DUB? Flying Business Class I always have access to the Lounge, usually Fast Tracked through security and I get the generous luggage allowance. But why else would I want to maintain Silver or reach Gold or any status if I always buy my Club World tickets?
After all these years I've still not gotten the hang of this points game!
Many thanks.
On airlines that take premium cabins seriously, status makes no difference. (I often fly airlines I have no status with, including ones outside any alliance I have elite status with, and it’s a non-issue.)
Since you are posting in the BA forum, you’ve come to an exception. BA takes premium cabin customers for granted, so status matters. The best illustration of this is catering. Even in First, if you aren’t GGL (or at least gold), you are unlikely to get your first choice of meal on busy routes into London. It’s no better in CW or CE, especially since the recent downgrade of the soft product. Pathetic, but there it is.
