3953 vs 3265 miles = 21% farther to ORD vs. BOS.

The only airline that flies both routes, BA, blocks them at 8h50m vs 7h40m.

I believe 8 hours is the limit with an unaugmented crew for daytime departures (someone please correct me). My guess is the flight crew had plenty of time (fresh from hotel) but they were down one pilot (they had Captain + FO, but no relief pilot). The winds were favorable so they felt confident they could hit BOS in < 8 hours, quick re-crew (plenty of warning to get a crew in place) and fly the last 2 hours to ORD. Better than holding the flight at LHR and letting the two pilots time out while they are looking for a third.

Looks like the flight to BOS took about 7h30m.
