I'm surprised there's been no mention of Aeroplan yet. The program can book an award seat (your outbound) 355 days out and then add the return (inbound) 355 days from when that becomes available. It's a bit pricier in terms of absolute points, but you'll also get up to 2 stopovers or 1 stopover and 1 open-jaw on a roundtrip award. Plus, it's only an extra 5k points in F for a roundtrip to Asia 2 instead of Japan.
