I was going to suggest LM- they treated us great on our 8 night stay last Spring. It is definitely a more relaxed atmosphere. Our grandkids are exactly the age of your kids and I don’t think I would take them to the Imperial.

With Starwood there were options to use points for upgraded rooms— not so much at Marriott— however I have discovered some hotels are open to allowing guests to upgrade points bookings with cash. You might try that with LM.
