Has anyone ever inquired with hotel management as to where that 10% of room rates for service goes?

On a $200 a night room, that is $20. That is certainly more than the $2.00 I might leave on my pillow for housekeeping. If the hotel is full, we are talking about a lot of money that is stated to be for hotel service staff.

Does this actually get filtered down to housekeeping? If not, the hotel should not charge it. Someone in the hotel industry knows where this money ends up and I would like to know also.
