BA Holidays: trouble adding (avios) guest to Moscow hotel booking/Visa

Have searched forum for similar but can't find answer...this is one of those ones that is either a mere technicality or a deal breaker/salutary tale. With the unusual twist of visa requirements.

Planned a trip for end of May to Moscow for 2 on BA F plus 2 nights at Intercontinental Moscow. Thought we were being quite neat:
Booked one person (me/silver) flights in F via avios redemption, and the other (him/gold) booked a BA holidays flight + hotel package with cash (nice TPs)
Called Gold line straight away to get an informal TCP on bookings and sorted out seating. Row 1...all fine.

Plan is 2 people to stay in the (executive) room, although technically its booked for 1 adult because BA Holidays don't allow this functionality of adding extra adult just for hotel part.
(I learned today I could have done this on phone booking if I'd asked the right question).

Now then, due to visa requirements (of letter of introduction from the hotel) and the fact I'm an IC ambassador, was keen to get my name added to hotel booking.
Called BA Holidays and they can't amend holiday booking. suggested the IC.
Called IC and they can't amend an agent's booking.
Got BA Holidays to call IC whilst I held, and IC still can't amend the booking. Nobody, it seems, can add my name.

Shall I just leave it as is? I mean, I assume one person staying impromptu in another person's hotel room must have happened a few times in world history, but don't know the legalities of this in Moscow. Plus there's still a visa to get....

should we:
a) cancel booking (lose £300) and book again a different way? (BA Holidays suggested this would add about £200 to bill)
b) create a cancellable reservation at IC for a second room for me and cancel it 24hrs before departure, and assume hotel OK about me in room
c) create a cancellable reservation at IC for second more basic room for me, check in, and just absorb the cost (£90 per night)
d) something else

advice warmly appreciated.
