I actually think it's worth saying. For me at least, AA often clears the upgrade without reissuing the ticket for a while, and all of the protections you mentioned don't kick in until the actual reissue. I once had an SWU clear, the flight cancelled before the ticket was reissued, and I was booked back in coach because I was not ticketed in Business yet. From that point on, I call right away.
