Not to be pedantic, but there is an important difference between an SWU upgrade clearing and your ticket being reissued. When your upgrade clears, you are confirmed in the higher cabin, but until your ticket is reissued you aren't assured of keeping the upgrade. When there is a schedule change, a delay, cancellation, or some other issue, AA will protect you in your ticketed cabin. This is why it's a good idea to call AA to have your ticket reissued as soon as you know your upgrade has cleared.
