The thing is... basically they don't have to offer anything. As much as we don't like it but MH cancelled this quickly and as with so many EF's airlines often don't honor these anymore.
So in a sense it's better than nothing. Considering MH's reputation is already in shambles this stunt will have zero implications of making it worse even if they tell everybody to go and pound sand.
