Not sure what's happening now, since I haven't been in the area for ages, but some years ago specific bars were fun regardless of one's plan for the night. And the LGBT lane had some cool performances (no, not copulation ones LOL).
But if you are looking for regular bars or clubs, that's not the area. You gotta go to Soi Ekkamai or RCA. Marriott Sukhumvit would be convenient for that purpose.
