Does this sound correct to people out there - that I get 1/2 of an Elite Qualifying Segment (EQS) for some Air Canada flights?

Since I get status based on segments - not miles - this is a bit discouraging to me.

I knew that mileage credited would be discounted for this flight

"Discounted flights within Canada—50% of actual, paid miles (or 250 miles minimum"

But I didn't know that segment credit would be as well.

Any thoughts?
