Background: Was scheduled to fly EWR-LAX on 3 JAN 2019 on the 787-8. Upgrade was cleared (surprisingly) 1 week prior to the flight. 2 days prior to the flight, I noticed that the seating had changed from standard business to Polaris business. Digging a bit more and found out that the plane has been upgauged to the 787-10, ship #1001 .

Here are some pictures:

If I had checked seatguru prior to the flight, I would have known that seat 5A was a misaligned window seat. Not a big deal, but just one of those things.

The 787-10 has the spacebins for the bins along the windows, so you can store the rollerboards sideways.

The seat was narrower and shorter than I expected. At 5'11", I pretty much filled up the entire length of the seat in lay-flat mode.

There were 4 flight attendants working in the Polaris cabin, although one of those was clearly not well (she told me she had a sinus issue) and barely performed her duties. As an example, my coat was hung on the seat's coat hook, and no one offered to store it in the closet. FYI, the coat closet is located in between Polaris and Premium Plus, not in front.

For Ship #1001 , there was an issue with the movies, where the sound is coming out of the short prong plug and not the standard plug. Therefore, you have to use the supplied headphone and not your own, for movies. This may have caused the reported issue regarding audio in the previous thread

Catering also boarded the wrong headset, so they had to get them to re-supply the headphones. FYI, your own headset works fine for the music selections. No selection for Channel 9, but I am guessing it's a programming issue, where they did not add that in as an option.

Also, for my seat, I noticed that there were frequent video freezes, while the audio continues. Also, after each PA announcement, the screen would reset back to the movie description screen as if I had pressed the stop button. Fortunately, there was a tech from Panasonic onboard (beta-testing flight?), I reported all the issues to her. She recommended resetting the seat, and that seemed to have resolved both issues.

Standard premium transcon business class catering, although they changed the cart for ice cream/dessert - less fancy, more sturdy/utilitarian.

Standard 787 lavatories, with sensor-based flush buttons and faucets.

Overall, it was a nice ride with a widebody plane.
