This is one of the problems with a lot of Japanese websites which are stuck in isolationist 17th century. Not talking about English language Jpn-based websites (since I don't use those), but rather Jpn websites in Japanese. Rakuten is okay, but so many sites aren't. When you're trying to create an account or make a booking or something, many sites will have forms with dropdown menus where you have to select a prefecture (and there's no "foreign" or "other" option) or you have to enter a valid Jpn postal code for your address, etc. If you don't make a selection or complete everything, you can't move forward. So then I have to use my parents' address or phone#, which they don't want me to. This is something that will need to be universally addressed in Jpn before long. Hasn't it occurred to anyone in Jpn that there're tons of Jpnese living abroad or tons of foreigners who can read/navigate in Japanese?
