An FYI on Merged/Moved Threads from the Delta Moderators

Hello Everyone,

Recently we have noticed a pretty large uptick in requests for merged threads, and when we don't merge them, we typically get continued requests to merge them. We wanted to offer a bit of insight as to why we don't merge threads sometimes. A few examples:
  • Merging new members questions into long mega threads is not a good experience for new users. New members have no idea that there is a long standing thread on XYZ topic, and if they haven't quite figured out Flyertalk, their question and helpful replies probably could get lost for them, and they may never return. For that reason, if a new thread is created with a simple question, we will often let it get answered, and then the thread dies.
  • Questions asked about Delta's Skyteam partner airlines in China that are often flown by DL members can often get a very quick response here about transit in China, experiences on board, etc. The "Other Asian Airlines" message board is a much lower traffic message board, and the Flyertalk members who are often flying them with a Delta Diamond/Platinum perspective are not frequently checking those boards to help out. For that reason, you will notice we very rarely will move a thread there, and often allow those discussions to take place on the Delta board.
Feel free to ask any questions you may have about this merging process, and we will have this thread as a memo we can link to as these questions come up in the future.

Thanks,
The Delta Skymiles Moderator Team
