I bring several boxes of books weighing approx 50 lbs from the US to Japan each all the time. I always get the heavy duty moving boxes and tape up the corners to reinforce them (had them rip open a little before) but never had problems.

On checking them in, they invariably ask me what's in the boxes. I say books. Never been asked to sign an improperly packed waiver before.
