After periodically watching IAH-SFO mid-morning flights over the past 3 months and seeing how often they are delayed to the point of being "connection-busters," I made the decision to never willingly book a flight through SFO ever again. I know weather is not United's fault, but they did choose to set up a big shop there. After my experience and many other horror stories I've heard from close friends and strangers on these boards, SFO is a no-go for me as a connection point.
Sadly, as a UA FF you often have no choice. But as you note, UA did choose to establish SFO as its Pacific hub, as opposed to flights from LAX. Having to fly RNO-SFO every trip, and connect through SFO, these ATC disasters are just too frequent.
