Yes, they are sometimes not strong enough.
But occasionally, you don't know what you are eating and this is when I put in all the precautions.
I was forced to eat at a Jain restaurant recently and the food looked entirely innocuous (I mean there's nothing in there). I did well with a) taking cortisone beforehand and b) eating next to nothing. I recovered the same night....
