Does cabin temperature self-adjust with altitude?

Just flown back this evening to LHR in CE in an A320. We were in row 6, with no air vents, and as usual the cabin was stiflingly hot. I could see from the label that it was set to 23.5C (crazy) and asked the delightful cabin crew if they could lower it. They obliged and adjusted it to 22.5C (still too hot but an improvement), but I noticed by the time we were on final approach it read 20.5C and I’m sure the crew didn’t adjust it again. So does the altitude interfere with the cabin settings?
