On an international itinerary, less than 24 hours is a connection. More than 24 hours is a stopover. Some airlines make exceptions if the first legal flight to your destination (whether available or not) is over 24 hours.
I wasn’t trying to define these things. This is how SQ defines them with respect to their ticketing i.e. connection has to be <24 hrs otherwise their “Stopover” rules and fees apply.
