Those seat were the previous international first class and are considered by some as the best seats in the UA fleet and on that aircraft they are significantly better than the 2-4-2 seats ( especially the "4" grouping). It is an older seat design but it was the top of the line at that point and still has many advantages -- aisle access, long bed, in-seat storage, ....
As discussed in
