I am planning a holiday for me and my friend to Hong Kong. However, we both have different home cities so we will be flying from separate departure airports to HKG and will then return to our separate home cities.
My friend's flight would be with AirAsia. If I pay for my friend's airline ticket (using my AMEX credit card) will AirAsia require the credit card holder to be at check-in to show the credit card - I will be at a different departure airport so I cannot be there? On a recent China Airlines flight from the UK to Taiwan I had to show my credit card which I purchased the airline ticket with at the check-in desk, but other than that I do not recall ever being asked before to show my credit card.
Thanks
On multiple Air Asia segments I've never once been asked for the credit card used for the booking - they are usually too busy checking bag weights/carry on item count - I suggest your friend does online check-in (14 days before departure) and if they get a boarding pass I doubt there will be a problem - and if the online check in does not go through for some reason, Air Asia help (or Twitter) are usually pretty efficient. If the flight is bought only a few days before departure it might be a different matter.
