Other one would be to have the ticket have a SYD-MEL or BNE sector with a BA flight number which will get you an extra flight. The flight back to SYD would be relatively cheap or awards are a sweat spot.

Other option other than doing the shuffle at SIN would be to fly to HKG then onto a BA codeshare. This would also provide the excellent CX first lounges.
