It has to go one way or the other. Suppose someone just makes it during the course of the year and the first night was a Jan. 1 checkout. He or she would want that night to count in the year of checkout, not checkin.
The one thing Hyatt should do is make this very clear and explicit in the T&C for both qualifying stay as well as promotions.
