'Donno if it's different, but I've had Exec status for several years through AMEX Platinum. Every year at New Years I get downgraded, and then it comes back sometime in February or March.
I've never actually had a rental during that time where it's been an issue in the past, so I've just let it happen.
As just an added data point, I signed up for the AMEX Exec Elite upgrade last fall, and that seems to still be active. It's supposed to end in February of 2020, so we'll see if it lasts.
