But those 70k AS miles are enough for (for example) a first class ticket to Asia on CX or JL, which is a lot more than you will get for 42k AA miles.

It sounds like the AA status is worth more to you than AS status, but the AS miles have much more value. So it's basically up to you. I'd take the miles over the status and credit to AS, but, your call.
