I’d probably try and use an ATM at the airport when arriving. Most have small limits ($110-220) per withdrawal. You want a machine that dispenses 100k notes. I’ve run into banks before that only dispensed $35 max. BCA, I think.
There have been cases of skimming at ATM’s in Bali. A big group of Eastern Europeans got caught a year or two ago. There are moneychangers that are decent, you just need to check around. We used Monex in a few different places. Don’t change at tiny places that no one else is changing in, or seem to have a unrealistically high rate.
I generally avoid changing at hotels. Some airport manned kiosks can have decent rates, but not sure if they do in Bali. Years ago they had a small place with horrid rates, but hopefully it’s gone in the remodeled version of the terminal.
