Norwegian Lesson Learned

Hey FTers,

Just got off a Norwegian flight from New York Stewart to Edinburgh and thought I'd share my experiences. To summarize:
  1. Norwegian is serious about weight limits. They literally weigh your overhead bag and under seat bag. I was overweight by 6 kilos over. My options were:
    1. Pay $100 USD to check the bag (online offer was $48 CAD before getting to airport)
    2. Remove stuff from bags and stuff in pocket or throw out to bring weight down to 3 kilos over allowing me to fork over $45 for the privilege of carrying that extra weight
  2. Regardless of which option I chose the bag would have to be checked since storage on a 737 MAX is apparently limited. Go figure! Expect to wait 45 minutes for bag to arrive off carousel...ugh!
  3. Did not choose seat since paying for seats is for suckers. Ended up getting assigned 5D (aisle) and having row to myself. Proceeded to travel in Norwegian Executive Economy on a lie flat
  4. Best bet for food at Stewart is the Quiznos pre-security
  5. Stewart has pre-check but folks at Norwegian don't know how to plug KTN into system to enable it
  6. There's a bus that'll take you from the Port Authority bus terminal in New York to Stewart airport at a cost of $20 USD (slightly more than the train from Newark to New York)
  7. The price of things at Stewart airport seemed reasonable compared to other major US airports
  8. The facilities at Stewart airport are limited! A couple charge points and seating areas but no real place to work and no Business Lounge!
All that being said, I don't regret taking Norwegian. I needed a one-way to position myself in Europe for future 240 GBP roundtrip fares between Europe and North America on UA K(ettle) fares. I look forward to flying Basic Economy on UA and getting access to the UA lounges, priority everything, 3 checked bags, E+ seating and all the other things I sorely miss from this experience!

Safe Travels,

James
