I've posted before that I also find this a bit odd. Why has RC given me, as a Plat but with no loyalty to RC, a suite in Boston in October for $100 less than the website rate, plus breakfast, plus an upgrade if available, plus late check-out?

I have to say that I would not have booked the RC at the standard rate without any of these benefits, so perhaps the question answers itself. But I'm still thrown as to why a Centurion cardholder (not short of a few $) would have got my package for a further $90 less!

Part of the benefit to the hotels is that they get to feature in Amex's very glossy FHR 'book' (its more than a brochure). I guess a lot of people stick solely to this when looking for a hotel.

Overall, I think RC's participation in FHR is one of the best reasons to stick with Amex Plat. The RC rates are clearly visible on the RC website and almost always offer a good discount to the prevailing rate, so you know what is available before you ring Amex.
