I think at some point IAG have suggested that avios will eventually all be on the one platform. If that happens and you have an IB account with minus 90000 and they merge accounts I would imagine that would effectively take them back. On that basis it might be safer to close the IB account I suppose it could cause problems if you ever needed an IB account in the future though. Would they open a new one if you left them with a previous debt? I don't know the answer.
