If you pay your balance in full every month disputes look simple, but many (most?) accounts carry a balance, and a dispute complicates calculation of finance charges etc until resolved.

When you dispute a charge you do not have to pay that portion of your account balance. As I understand, Chase reports the dispute so that the card account will be temporarily excluded from calculation of your credit score. When the dispute is resolved the account is noted, and is again included in score calculations.
