Lurker, this doesn't make a lot of sense for a number of reasons.
First, why have rules if every time we ask where it says so in the rules you point to the "absolute discretion" clause and say that's how it is to be interpreted? How is anyone supposed to guess what the rules are if we aren't told until after the fact? Pretty strange way to run a program, espacially one trying to create customer loyalty.
Second, if this is such an inflexible rule, why didn't the check-out clerk point it out when my wife pulled out her credit card? The room was booked in my name and had my *Wood number on it. Shouldn't the clerk have said "You know you don't get any points unless it's on your own credit card?" How are we supposed to know the unwritten rules?
It's only a couple of hundred points and frankly I wasn't that fussed about it, but the explanation has left a far worse taste in my mouth than the original denial of the points.
