Delta 97
Paris CDG–Detroit DTW
A330
December 27, 2018
Air France has an excellent check-in area in the 2-E terminal of CDG, if you have either a business-class ticket or Sky Priority status. Unfortunately, the dedicated Sky Priority security line—the French version of TSA—was longer than the line for the standard security checkpoint. 25 minutes is absurd, especially since in France you don’t have to take your shoes off.
I received an email from Delta some 3 days before departure with my options, if I wanted to pre-select my Delta One business-class meal. Unfortunately, the website wasn’t working. I tried about 20 times and kept getting errors. I tried Twitter and also the diamond desk telephone number and neither could pre-select my option, despite the Delta.com error message advising me to phone in my pre-selection. Finally, after about an hour of trying Delta.com worked and my meal option was pre-selected. For what it’s worth, the Twitter and diamond desk agents know nothing about this; they can only do a special meal request.
I won’t write-up the drink menu as it was covered in my outbound flight; it’s the
standard winter 2018/2019 menu offerings. The only exception is in Paris they serve real French champagne—the Lanson Black Label brut—as the pre-departure beverage as Air France doesn’t cater Delta with the cheap Italian sparkling wine that’s normally served pre-departure.
Very average crew. The business-class cabin had at least a dozen empty seats. Pre-departure beverage limited to champagne, orange juice and water. FEBO not followed. We were catered with the new purple and white salt-and-pepper shakers,
The tray tables were not removed after the first courses, as has been recent practice on some flight. Also, the flight attendant wanted me to re-use my dirt silverware on my main course. Ugh. Speaking of the first courses, the caesar salad looked a day old. The croutons were stale.
My salmon was perfectly cooked, but some kale or something besides a potato-based side dish would be better. The port wine sauce also isn’t something I would normally consider for salmon. It wasn’t bad. Just unusual.
As usual, any grammatical or typographical errors in the transcription of the in-flight menu are Delta’s, not mine.
