This happened to me at JW Marriott Phu Quoc and few months ago. I wasn't happy. I paid for an extra night as I had a 2am flight. We checked out at 10pm.
They wouldn't budge on night credit. After I emailed front desk supervisor and hotel manager. Refused.
Ridiculous as I paid extra night, stayed past check out so obviously wasn't trying to game system.
I don't recall ever having this happen to me at Starwoods in past.
I have a similar reservation and check out time coming up with and legacy Starwood next week. I wonder what they will do. Hard to leave and chek out by phone next day at resorts esp when taking hotel limo to airport
I am ending year at 74 nights. I am lifetime plat premier so that doesn't matter but I did want free night.
JW Marriott Phu Quoc cost me. And in general Marriott rules like this puts a bitter taste in mouth. They will take my money but won't give me credit.
