Do you have the option to obtain miles in some FFP other than QANTAS's? If so, price the trip using BA Avios (if you can find availability on the QF nonstop flights), or using IB Avios (if you are forced to connect in MEL in one or both directions).

And, of course, be sure to check the cost of a cash ticket, as well.
