While it's true that AS allows stopovers (incredibly valuable benefit IMO) this will require 2 awards when booked with AS as well.

The TL;DR is that AS doesn't allow a stopover in HNL on a partner award.
If I was doing this, I'd pay cash to fly to / from Hawaii. These flights are relatively cheap (and should only get cheaper with Southwest entering the market), so they tend to be a poor use of miles unless you really have an abundance. You could do this as an award as well, of course, if you wanted, but it would have to be a separate award from the rest of the trip.
Then I'd book HNL-SYD-HNL in Qantas F using AS miles. You get a free stopover, so, if you wanted, you could visit another place on that trip for the same number of miles (treating SYD as a stopover). I'd be tempted to pop into New Zealand for a couple of nights, but then, I really like visiting multiple places on the same trip.
