I get your sentiment but even in F, it's not like it's 2 full meals - the 2nd 'afternoon tea' serving is hardly a big meal.

I tend to eat whatever meal is available though I may not eat everything. Something it's not clear when I might have the next meal (could be onward connections, travel to the hotel etc). Sometimes it's to get into the local time zone (i.e. I wouldn't want to be hungry 2 hours after stepping off the plane). Sometimes it's boredom or FOMO, sometimes slight hunger (especially if I've skipped certain parts of the previous round).

either way, I don't think it's quite as excessive as it might sound on paper (and appreciate you are not arguing for meals to be scrapped) - 4 hours between meals is the norm for some and whatever the 2nd meal is, is more of a snack.
