Marriott is absolutely the worst at this. Their training program includes teaching the chipper young clerks to announce with a tone of wonder "We've upgraded you to a lovely club view room on the 4th floor" even when this translates to "all we have left is the dumpster view." I believe it's deliberately intended to deter pushback about your room assignment.
