Pure speculation on my part. AS will have some kind of reciprocity benefits with some OW carriers, namely CX, at least for lounge at some Airports, most likely HKG, which already has a bunch of OWE/S running around in coach fares anyway. What's a few more, right? CX will increase relationship with AS, while CZ & AA strengthen theirs. As to joining OW, just as AA would veto AS, CX will likewise veto CZ.
What's your basis for thinking AA would veto AS joining OW? It seemed like AA and AS paring back their partnership was not something either really wanted to do and was really just something they had to do as an antitrust condition to get the VX acquisition approved, so letting AS into OW would be a way to undo that.
