It certainly pays to know the rules of other airlines and policies

I'm currently sitting in the BA First Lounge at JFK terminal 7 flying Alaska to LAX in first with a 10.5 hour layover before QF94 in first. I went to the Alaska lounge and thought, I might as well ask at BA and as a Oneworld Emerald, they let me in.

I had to book the flights on separate PNR's 2 months ago and with the possibility of storms and snowed in, I made sure I had plenty of time up my sleeve. At check in with 3 bags (2 allowed on Alaska first) was told I'd need to pay $75 for the 3rd. I pointed out their rules regarding international connections and had it checked for free. They couldn't find MEL on their system and tagged only to LAX and started putting them on the conveyor belt and I made them stop the belt and take them off. I showed Alaska policy of less than 12 hour layover and then it magically appeared on their system.

I'm glad I did and had it sorted to what I believed was true from their site as it will make LAX and possibly leaving for a few hours much easier. They probably don't have to do it often so it's easy to forget their own policies.

Regards,

Michael
