I have two friends from Germany coming and I would like for them to experience a good NYC steak house experience. Anymore given all the manipulations on trip advisor, it is hard to judge what is good, bad or a tourist trap. I am looking for a traditional steak experience that three guys getting together once a year can enjoy. It does not need to be high end, but hopefully should be a memorable experience for them. Both have been to the US as tourists once. Their prime steak house experience is zero, however, I have tried this before with family and the experience delivered did not match the price tab whatsoever. Are there good value destination in NYC proper that serve a good experience without being a tourist trap or a chain?

I should clarify I am not looking for Outback or anything like that. In the end it is important to get extraordinary food in a traditional environment that we can enjoy. No foam please. Dollars are important, but in the end I'd like it to be an experience for them, if this is even still possible this day and age.
