Top tips for packing antique clocks for hand luggage

1. Disconnect the pendulum and wrap carefully
2. Use something soft like a tissue to brace the escapement to stop it ticking when the pendulum is disconnected.
3. If it's a striker, also use something soft to brace the strike and the bell or gong it is due to hit.
4. Ensure that nothing can interfere with the hands.
5. If there is a glass face these are often fragile so ensure no undue pressure could be applied whilst packed.
6. As a preference have the clock half-wound, so there is still pressure on the spring, not not fully wound or unwound.
7. Don't forget to take the winding key.

Depending on the size of the timepiece or clock, wineboxes have been quite useful in the past as something to pack into. Drink the wine first.

Hope you have a great time
