What a horror story! By complete contrast, Montreal is also home to one of the nicest places I have ever stayed in : an up-market, gay-owned B&B called Le Traversin.

The guesthouse is spotlessly clean and stylishly decorated, and Jean and Sylvain are wonderfully friendly hosts. The breakfasts are to die for ... they can turn into quite a social occasion stretching well into the late morning. The spa stuff on the website looks like a new addition since I was there in 2001.

Worth pointing out that this guesthouse is gay-owned, but is not all-gay or single-sex. Those seeking a "cruise factor" should look elsewhere.
